30 Days of Thankfulness: Kayla & Louisa

I am blessed with a strong group of friends, and today I get to honor two of them.

One of the very first conversations I remember having with Kayla was about how her boyfriend would be coming to North Carolina from Ohio for an internship program at Daystar. Fast forward several years later, and the two of them are married, have a daughter that’s the same age as my youngest, and Chris is on staff as one of Daystar’s worship pastors.

Through this time, Kayla and I have become really close. We often hang out on Wednesday mornings before meeting our hubbies for staff lunch at church. We have been able to celebrate our girls learning how to crawl and walk. We help out with each other’s children when we have meetings or are serving at church. Perhaps one of our closer bonds, we both love sweets and Chick-fil-A!

I love Kayla’s passion for her Savior. She has allowed God to transform her heart as she daily pursues Him. She serves on the Growth Track team at church by helping people who are new to Daystar get plugged in and find community. As a doula, she ministers to women who are bringing new life into the world. She is also a pastor’s wife, and a good one at that. Kayla is always honoring of her husband and gives him the freedom to serve in numerous capacities.

I admire Kayla’s determination as she sets goals for herself. After having her first baby, Kayla decided she wanted to become a doula and went for it. Just recently, she ran her first half-marathon after months of training. I tend to make excuses for my exercise routine, but I know that if Kayla can do it, I can do it.

Kayla, I am thankful to have you as a friend. I love you and who you are!

Louisa once told me that I was the first person to speak to her at Daystar. I’m glad I did because now she is one of my closest friends.

Myself, Amelia (Louisa’s sister and also a dear friend), and Louisa at a Bethel worship night.

Sometimes I feel like Louisa and I are opposites in every way.

  • She has an amazing singing voice and is able to lead our church into a time of praise and worship each Sunday. I sing in the shower and in the car.
  • Her personality is bold and vibrant. I prefer to stay in the background.
  • She gets fashion (she went to school for it!) and always know just what to wear and how to do her hair and makeup. I’m learning lots of things from her expertise!
  • When she has free time, Louisa gets things done. When I have free time, I like to play Angry Birds (don’t judge).

These are the things that most anyone can see about Louisa, but once you get to really know her, you discover some pretty amazing attributes. Louisa has a strong sense of loyalty to her family and friends. This is the thing that blows me away about her. Few people have made me feel loved the way that Louisa has, and that is special. She loves my girls like family, she sends me pictures of things she thinks I would like when she’s out shopping, and I believe she would drop everything (within reason) if I needed her. She is a true friend.

Louisa, thank you for the impact you have made in my life. I’m not sure that I’ve done it justice here, but your friendship is a gift to me.
